When and why did you start making Lauya?
- I started cooking when I got married in 1996 because I needed to learn how to cook, especially those Filipino foods.
What was the story behind this dish? Any experiences while making this dish?
- It was everyones favorite in the family, from your uncles and aunties to you and your dad. I always used to make it for you when you were sick. Your grandma used to make a similar dish and you loved it so much that I finally made it for you one day.
How did you find this recipe? Did you revise the recipe to make it "different from the rest"?
- My mom taught me the recipe, but then when I went to Vegas I tasted what your Auntie Dang & Uncle Raul cooked, she was putting corn, black paper, and the taste was better - that was how I made it "different from the rest".
Do you enjoy making this dish? Why/why not?
- Yes, I enjoy making this dish, because it's always been a family favorite.
How long has this dish been around in the family?
- It's been around.. uh.. oh my goodness.. ever since I was a child, I've been eating this dish. When your dad & I got married, I started making this dish for us and when you were starting to eat home food, I let you eat this & you liked it.
Have you taught others this dish?
- Yes, my younger sister, Aunty Riza.
On what occasions do you make this dish?
- Family gatherings, and on you and you cousins birthdays.
